Jul 06, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- Nokia (NYSE:NOK) denied rumors that it was working on a smartphone based on Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system after Britain's Guardian reported that the company would unveil one in September, citing industry insiders. A Nokia spokesman told media outlets, "There is no truth to this story whatsoever. It is a well known fact that Symbian is our platform of choice for smartphones," according to a Washington Post report. While many companies have been experimenting with Google's open-source operating system, but Nokia appears to be reaffirming its vows to Symbian, which may be holding the company back in the highly competitive smartphone market.
