FULL-TEXT CHINESE NEWSPAPERS COMING TO IPHONES IN JAPANTOKYO, Jul 06, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Peking University Founder Group Corp. will offer a service enabling users in Japan to read Chinese newspapers in their entirety on Apple Inc.'s iPhone. The Japanese unit of the major Chinese information technology firm is to launch the service next month. Users will be able to download that day's edition of five major Chinese newspapers by 10 a.m. The monthly fee for the service will be 315 yen per title. Users will first need to download free browsing software developed by the company from Apple's App Store. This application is expected to have functions to translate articles into Japanese and English. The service area will be limited to Japan for the time being, given the proliferation of large-screen smart phones here. The firm intends to eventually provide the service to Chinese-speaking people across the world. It aims to have 100,000 subscribers in three years and 600,000 in five years. Peking University Founder Group said that it is also considering distributing Japanese and English-language newspapers to smart phones. The firm was established in 1986 by Peking University, which is the majority shareholder. (Nikkei) lm |
