Apparent Networks Research: Network Managers Delaying Application Deployments

Jul 03, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Apparent Networks announced it has released survey data showing that a number of network managers are delaying the deployment of applications because of network concerns outside of the managers' control.

According to the survey results, Apparent Networks noted that more than 36 percent of network managers have delayed application deployments because of network performance concerns. Of those, 61 percent said issues outside their own networks presented the biggest roadblocks to these deployments.

The survey connected network performance to the adoption of applications that involve data center technologies. The applications noted in the survey included voice over IP (VoIP), unified communications and video delivery applications.

"Based on the survey data, there is little doubt that network managers are tired of having the finger pointed at them, when the problem is outside of their control," said Jim Melvin, president and CMO at Apparent Networks. "Network managers are completely on board with next-generation data center technologies, but they are not confident enough in the third-party network performance necessary to make these technologies meet their performance requirements." The company noted the following highlights from the survey: - Twenty-six percent of respondents do not have the capability to validate service level agreements, the primary method used to measure external service providers, and only 42 percent said they "regularly validate" those agreements.

- Nearly 61 percent of respondents who noted they had delayed a deployment said they had delayed a VoIP roll-out, making it the most common next-generation application cited.
