IMS-Smeda holds Business Plan Competition for FATA students

Jun 09, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- , in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), organized first of its kind, Business Plan Competition for FATA Students. The competition was held at the IM Sciences Campus in Peshawar. The purpose of the competition was to provide FATA business students an experiential learning opportunity to bring innovative and workable business ideas for commerce and business development in the FATA region.



A panel of judges comprised of Mr. Nauman Wazir, President of Industrialists Association, Peshawar (IAP), Javed Khattak Provincial Chief of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Tariq Mashwani, Chief Operating Officer of Pakistan Hunting and Sporting Arms Development Company (PHSADC) and Mr. Naeem Bangash, Chief Manager of Al-Baraka Islamic Bank reviewed and ranked eleven business plans submitted by six business institutes.

These institutes included Peshawar University, IBMS/CS NWFP Agricultural University, City University, CECOS University, IM Sciences and Islamia College University.



The final presentation and certificate distribution ceremony was held on June 4, 2009, at IM Sciences, Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, Director IM Sciences distributed certificates among winners and participating students. Dr Nasser Director IM Sciences stated that such a trend of having business plan competitions amongst students should be encouraged so as to inculcate a culture of entrepreneurship amongst the up coming future generations; give vent to new ideas and opportunities and interlink the academia and industry in a major way. It would carve out a pathway towards changing mindsets towards development and a better tomorrow.

Javed Khattak, Provincial Chief SMEDA informed that this is the second business plan competition organized by SMEDA to encourage entrepreneurial culture in young graduates. He appreciated the efforts made by young students and gave suggestions to improve their business plans and ideas.

The three top prizes were Rs 50,000, 35,000 and 25,000 respectively. First position was awarded to Funkcessories Group, from the Institute of Management Studies Peshawar University, Shining Marble Mosaic Group from IBMS/CS NWFP Agricultural University bagged the 2nd, and Computerization of Khyber Schools, a business plan presented by a Group from CECOS University won the third position.
