Google China Business as UsualSHENZHEN, Jul 02, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Google China's business and market share kept a fast growing pace in the second quarter despite the negative influence imposed by the report of China Central Television about research results of the search service provider linking directly to obscene content. A reseller of Google discloses that sales from the agency business rose 25% in the second quarter of the year as compared with the first three months. And the condition is pretty much the same for Google's distributors across the country. Google China sees an increase of 45% to 50% in sales for the first half of 2009. Its search traffic grew steadily in the first half. And it expects to see a 3% hike in search market shares. Ironically, Google China's search traffic soared three days right after CCTV's report, which increased 20% to 30% on June 19, with the daily peak value of search inquires topping 32 million. Hong Bo, a famous Internet analyst in China, says the issue has done no damage to Google China's business, adding that as more Chinese users are using Google products, they will be getting more independent on them. China's national TV station China Central Television lately took a swipe at Internet search service provider Google China for its search results linking to pornographic photos, videos and texts. The latest disclosure of CCTV came after Google China was shamed by the public for its large number of obscene contents in January and April, respectively. The disclosure of Google China's pornographic content came at a time when China has recently tightened its Internet censorship. CCTV strongly condemns the search service provider and demands it to thoroughly clean up these pornographic and vulgar contents on its sites. Moreover, the China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre (CIIRC) calls on related government agencies to punish Google China in accordance with the law. Latest statistics from IT market research iResearch indicate that Google saw its market shares increase 2.7% in China in the first quarter of this year to over 30%. The numbers released by Analysys International show that Google China's market shares increased to 27.8% last year from 23.4% in 2007. It recorded CNY 246 million, CNY 320 million, CNY 407 million, and CNY 459 million in the four quarters of 2008, respectively. It scored a growing rate of 4.4% last year, versus 2.9% seen by Chinese search service provider Baidu.com. (USD 1 = CNY 6.83) Source: www.163.com (July 02, 2009) |
