NYU and Unicon Present Sakai Portfolio Track at 10th Annual Sakai Conference

PHOENIX --(Business Wire)-- Unicon, Inc., a leading provider of software consulting services for the education market, today announced that representatives from New York University (NYU) and Unicon will jointly present a Portfolio Session Track titled, "Alternatives to OSP: Making Portfolios Flexible and Fun (Yes, Fun!)" at the 10th Annual Sakai Conference being held July 8-10, 2009 at the Cambridge Hyatt Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The presentation will focus on the Simonides project which has developed a powerful and flexible portfolio tool "Memory Palace" for Sakai version 2.6. The Memory Palace tool is designed to tap the potential of instructional technology and provide an avenue for student self-representation within the Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment. NYU partnered with Unicon to develop the Memory Palace tool for organizing and presenting content and providing integration with NYU's Xythos content repository.   Description: New York University, in partnership with Unicon, will present Simonides, the portfolio alternative for Sakai, now available in 2.6. Simonides facilitates student self-representation through a combination of file storage and content creation elements. The track will show the tool's pedagogical uses and discuss its development process.

2.) Unicon Presenting at Sakai Conference 2009 Session Title:   "Sakai Planning Made Easy - 3 Steps to a Successful Rollout" Track: Deploying Sakai When: Wednesday, July 8, 2009, 2:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Location: Aquarium Room, Cambridge Hyatt, Boston, Massachusetts Presenter: Patty Wolfe, Unicon   Description: One of the key ingredients is successful planning and getting the right people involved at the right time. Unicon will facilitate an interactive discussion on how your institution holds the keys to success.

3.) Presentation Featuring: Unicon, Higher Ed Institutions, and Industry Representatives Session Title:   "Reintroducing Sakai" Track: Multiple Audiences When: Thursday, July 9, 2009, 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Location: Cambridge A&B Room, Cambridge Hyatt, Boston, Massachusetts Presenters: Patti Wolfe, Unicon; Mike Zackrison, rSmart; Lois Brooks, Stanford University; Kim Thanos, Thanos Partners; Josh Baron, Marist College   Description: Sakai has evolved since the early days, and it's time to reintroduce the product and the community to those who are new to open source. This working session will highlight outreach efforts. Participants will help "debunk the myths" by developing success stories that alleviate common concerns about using open software.
