SmarTrend(R) News Watch: China Mobile Fast Tracks Development Projects for LTEJun 29, 2009 (SmarTrend(R) News Watch via COMTEX) -- According to China Mobile's recent filing, China Mobile expressed that TD-SCDMA is an unproven commercial technology that possesses several limitations that include: availability, functionality, price of terminals, and support for roaming. Supporting seamless roaming is a major consideration amongst high-end mobile phone users. China Mobile said it remains committed to TD-SCDMA, but it will be moving aggressively into building out its technology for its Long Term Evolution (LTE) capabilities. LTE is the prototype-4G wireless technology set to be deployed worldwide by mobile operators. China Mobile CEO Wang Jianzhou stated that his company is looking to launch a time division duplex (TDD) version of LTE in 2010. This news is important to Nokia (NYSE:NOK) and Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM). Nokia is planning on launching its first TD-SCDMA smartphone by the end of this year with China Mobile, while Research In Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) is rumored to be currently testing its Blackberry technology with China Mobile.
