Growing a practice: Chiropractor expands with new building, added services

Jun 28, 2009 (The Hutchinson News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A growing practice and a desire to better meet the needs of his patients has prompted Hutchinson chiropractor Ty Cohoon to build a new office here.

The building for Cohoon & Kinesiology Chiropractic Wellness Center is going up at the southwest corner of Garden Grove Parkway and 31st Avenue.

"We're hopeful we'll be in there by November, but it may be December," Cohoon said.

The new single-story building will feature a stone front with pillars and a combination of stone, wainscoting and siding around the rest of the building. Jim Putnam, of Putnam Architecture, designed it, and Jim Nunns Construction is the building contractor.

The new building will more than double the square footage of his current leased space, Cohoon said.

Cohoon has been at 2701 N. Main since he opened his practice in Hutchinson about 51/2 years ago, after graduating from the Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas.

His practice has evolved since it opened, Cohoon said, based on patient needs and different conditions he's been called on to treat.

"We get patients who can't get as better as we want, so we look for other means to achieve those goals," he said. "Patients demand results, so you have to do what you can to get those results." The new building will afford space to offer more rehabilitative services, Cohoon said, "and different things that make the office more interactive for patients, that we've been unable to do because of our limited size." "We're going to do quite a few new things, though we haven't decided on everything yet," Cohoon said. "We do lots of nutrition work. We may add in exercise and weight loss. Plus other rehab services, like spinal rehab, which we were unable to offer." With the building expansion, the practice could also expand over the next year.

"We currently have two front desk/office assistants and an office manager," Cohoon said. "When we get over there, we're looking to add, possibly, another practitioner, as well as another assistant. We'll have to see how things go, but hope to have another couple of people in our first year." To see more of The Hutchinson News or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.hutchnews.com.
