New transtec NAS models speed up data access and reduce costs by 30 percent; New generation of NAS & iSCSI appliances with Windows Storage Server 2008

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Banbury, Oxfordshire, -- transtec is the first German supplier to ship NAS & iSCSI appliances with Microsoft's new Windows Storage Server 2008 operating system. Growing, unstructured data can thus be managed and stored efficiently from a central location. The new transtec NAS & iSCSI storage servers reduce storage requirements by 30 percent, improve availability and deliver up to five times faster data access than previous models. To customise these systems to individual business requirements, transtec offers an extensive range of models from entry-rack to scalable mid-range systems and cluster-compatible enterprise NAS/SAN gateways. The entry-level model is available from 1,290 GBP excl. VAT. All models can be configured individually.

Maximum storage efficiency reduces costs for unstructured data Unstructured data such as presentations and other office documents, manuals, graphics, technical plans or image/video files are responsible for the ever-increasing storage demands in large as well as small to medium-sized companies and public institutions. The Single Instance Storage (SIS) v 2.0 data deduplication technology from Microsoft can reduce data flow considerably. This file-based technology can process duplicate information in just 128 volumes. The physical storage capacity required is thus reduced by 30 percent. The timeframe required for saving data is also cut as well as data storage costs. The SIS data deduplication mode can also be deactivated at any time for later data migration to other solutions.

More efficiency due to faster data access The new transtec NAS & iSCSI storage servers improve efficiency as workers can access information considerably faster. What's more, each system can support more users. In comparison to file services from a normal Windows Server 2008, data access is up to 27 percent faster. An improved version of the fifteen-year old Windows network file system protocol is also available with SMB 2.0 in Windows Storage Server 2008. Users with SMB 2.0-compatible PCs thus have access to large files two to five times faster than with the previous version. To make use of this improved performance, the new transtec NAS & iSCSI storage servers come with 4 x 1 Gigabit Ethernet ports onboard and use the new Intel Nehalem processors from the Xeon 5500 series. These deliver a considerable increase in performance with reduced energy requirements. By integrating SAS expander technology with the most powerful storage controllers currently available on the market, it is not just costs that have been cut. The new transtec models also achieve the best marks in terms of performance and reliability.

iSCSI SAN with SSD support Even IP-SAN applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server or SQL Server profit from the new transtec storage systems. For the first time, transtec offers a model with 2.5 inch SFF hard drives and SSD support to effectively manage hotspots of up to 30,000 IOPs. The new transtec models are also configured with iSCSI Target. This software, previously only available in "Windows Unified Storage Server 2003", is included in the price. The new Release 3.2 delivers IPv6 support, failover improvements with dual-active clustering as well as improved CHAP security.
