Asia-America gateway cable to be operational in August: PLDTMANILA, Jun 18, 2009 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- PHILIPPINE LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE COMPANY (PLDT)(PSE:TEL) announced that the 20,000-kilometer long Asia America Gateway (AAG) Submarine Cable Project is expected to be operational by August this year. The AAG is a high-bandwidth fiber optic submarine cable system, capable of providing up to 1.92 terabits per second of data to users once operational. * It said all land cable installation works have been installed and majority of the submarine cable portion has been laid with the remaining submarine cable work expected to be laid and completed this month. * The telecommunication company added that network testing is expected to begin immediately after the completion of the submarine cable works.
