JAPAN'S SAAS MARKET SEEN TO MORE THAN DOUBLE BY FY13
TOKYO, Jun 17, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) --
Japan's market for
software-as-a-service (SaaS) is expected to grow to be worth
311.6 billion yen (US$3.2 billion) in fiscal 2013, more then
doubling in scale from fiscal 2008, according to a forecast by
marketing research company MIC Research Institute Ltd.
During that same five-year stretch, the market for
platform-as-a-service (PaaS), which provides the hardware
foundation for SaaS, is forecast to grow sixfold to 30.5
billion yen.
The research institute based these forecasts on a survey of
73 firms that provide SaaS and PaaS in Japan.
Japan's SaaS market was worth 151.7 billion yen in fiscal
2008. Over the next five years, it is expected to grow at an
annual average rate of roughly 16 per cent. The PaaS market was
worth 5.2 billion yen in fiscal 2008.
The research firm cited several factors for the growth of
these two markets. Companies that use these services can reduce
their initial investments as well as the costs of software
updates and support. Moreover, they can lighten their own
systems operating burdens.
