Airtel crosses 5 mn subscriber mark in Delhi circle


New Delhi, Jun 15, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Telecom service provider Bharti Airtel today said its subscriber base has crossed five million mark in the Delhi circle making it the first mobile operator to achieve this landmark in a metro circle.

Bharti Airtel, which crossed the subscriber base of 100 million in the country last month, said it added the last one million subscribers in only 13 months in the circle (NCR) that already boasts of a mobile penetration of almost 100 per cent, Airtel said in a statement.

According to the figures given by GSM-based mobile operators' body COAI, Bharti Airtel had maintained its leadership position in the GSM-space with a market share of 32.48 per cent.


In May Airtel hit the landmark of reaching 100 (99.5) million subscribers mark with the addition of 2.8 million users in the month.

Bharti Airtel CEO (Mobile Services), Delhi & NCR, Shashi Arora said, "This is a testimony to the faith and trust that the customers of the Delhi & NCR have reposed on Airtel and we would like to take this opportunity to thank every single one."
