SunGard Participates in the Environmental Defense Fund's Climate Corps Summer Fellowship Program
WAYNE, Pa. --(Business Wire)--
Climate Corps is the Environmental Defense Fund's (EDF) 10-week program that trains MBA students in energy-efficient strategies and embeds them within leading corporations. Their goal is to analyze and recommend the most effective ways for their host companies to consume less energy. SunGard is participating in this program for the first time and is hosting Ryan Whisnant from the University of Michigan.
Mr. Whisnant, who studied environmental engineering as an undergraduate, is pursuing a dual degree from the University of Michigan business school and the school of natural resources. He will be working at SunGard's headquarters in Wayne, PA, where he will research the carbon footprint of the corporate campus while also working with other regional SunGard offices to understand the larger impact of sustainability recommendations.
"We are pleased SunGard is participating in Climate Corps and are looking forward to seeing the energy savings from their efficiency investments," said Millie Chu Baird, project director from EDF.
Before starting at their host company, Climate Corps fellows receive intensive training in fundamental energy efficiency strategies from the EDF and Rocky Mountain Institute. Industry experts instruct the fellows in everything from energy units and conversions to lighting technology to leasing structures.
Jennifer Sweet, SunGard's senior manager for corporate responsibility, said, "We are very pleased to support the Environmental Defense Fund's 2009 Climate Corps program. For SunGard, sustainability is a matter of competitiveness as well as a matter of values. The customers we do business with, and the communities and environment we do business in, are increasingly affected by sustainability issues. Our partnership with EDF will help us in our goal to foster our corporate culture of sustainable development."
