Catholic Charities Executive to Speak at United Nations

Candy S. Hill, Vice President Social Policy and Government Affairs for Catholic Charities USA, will speak at Religions for Peace, a consultative symposium of the North American Women of Faith Network, on June 15, 2009. The program will be held at 777 United Nations Plaza, second floor, in New York City.

Participating in a panel on Reflections for Action, Ms. Hill will address "Women, Girls and Urban Poverty." Ms. Alia Hogden, Executive Director, Canadian Council of Muslim Women, will serve as moderator. Other featured panelists participating in the discussion include Mrs. Beverly Jacobs, President, Native Women's Association of Canada, who will address "Women as Advocates of Social Justice Family and Community"; Sr. Meg Gardiner, Maryknoll Sisters; and Ms. Parker Digorry, Presbyterian Church of USA, who will focus on "Violence against Women and the Trafficking of Women and Girls."
As vice president for social policy and government affairs for Catholic Charities USA, Candy S. Hill is responsible for directing the organization's federal advocacy efforts; representing Catholic Charities USA on Capitol Hill and with the administration; and serving as the organization's spokesperson on social policy. She serves as board member of Coalition on Human Needs, Diversity Committee of the Catholic Health Association, and has been an adjunct professor at Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law.
Hill, a native of Michigan, joined Catholic Charities USA in the summer of 2005 after serving for five years as the president and CEO of Catholic Charities of Monroe County in Michigan. From 1999 to 2001, Hill was the diocesan director of agencies and institutions for the Archdiocese of Detroit, serving as liaison between the Archdiocese and its eight social services agencies and 33 affiliates.
Prior to joining the Archdiocese, she worked for more than 25 years for the State of Michigan's Department of Human Services, formerly the Family Independence Agency.
Hill holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Alma College in Michigan.
