Sina eyes China tourism industry


BEIJING, Apr 17, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Chinese leading internet media compan y Sina Corporation (SINA.Nasdaq) recently signed an agreement with the National Tourism Administration to launch an online tourism project.

The move revealed that Sina believed that China will boost tourism to expand domestic demand and it is hoping to obtain a biggest piece o f the cake, said an industrial insider. Sina has said that the projec t will give netizens access to enjoying pictures, stories and videos i ntroducing them to many of China's famous sceneries.



"This activity boasts dynamic coverage and influences broadly," sai d an official with the tourism authority, "I believe that the project will give a strong push to domestic tourism consumption." Gao Wen, senior editor of Sina, said "China's GDP per capita has ex ceeded 2,000 U.S. dollars, which would dramatically spur domestic tour ism consumption."
