Tickets can be picked up at the school, or anyone interested may call Steve Lewis at (301) 777-2570. Any F Club member with outstanding tickets must turn them in today.

Raiders pee wee football sign-ups set CUMBERLAND -- The Cumberland Raiders pee wee football team will hold registration Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m. to noon, at Washington Middle School. There will be a second sign-up May 2, 9 a.m. to noon, at Washington Middle School.



To participate, players and cheerleaders must be six years old on or before Sept. 1 and not have turned 12 prior to Sept. 1. Birth certificates are required for all new participants. A registration fee of $35 will be collected.

PVAA's monthly meeting Thursday CRESAPTOWN -- The Potomac Valley Athletic Association will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, 8:30 p.m., at the old Cresaptown fire hall.

The meeting is open to the public and any person with interest in the organization and all baseball coaches should attend.

Grand Slam softball tournament April 24-25 CUMBERLAND -- The Grand Slam Slow Pitch Softball Tournament has been scheduled for April 24-25 at the Riverside softball field.

The tournament, in a round-robin format, will follow A.S.A. Rules, and the winning team will be awarded a $600 grand prize. A home run derby will follow the tournament. There will be a $250 entry fee for each team, and the deadline to sign-up is Monday, April 21.

All proceeds from the tournament will go toward an addition to a local church.

All-Star Basketball Classic April 19 FROSTBURG --The 29th annual All-Star Basketball Classic between West Virginia and Maryland will take place Sunday, April 19 at Frostburg State University in Bobcat Arena.

The girls game will tip-off the action at 2 p.m. while the boys' game will be at 4 p.m.

The All-Star Basketball Classic was created to honor the best senior high school basketball players in Eastern West Virginia and Western Maryland. The game has been sponsored by the Frostburg Lions Club along with McDonald's Restaurants since 1999.

Kid's Mile Challenge May 9 at ACM CUMBERLAND -- The Kid's Mile Challenge/Come Chase the Cow will be held Saturday, May 9, on the dirt track at Allegany College of Maryland.

A Parent's Mile and 400-meter jog for tots ages 1 to 6 will be held following the Kid's Mile Challenge.

Registration will begin at 1 p.m., and the Kid's Mile Challenge starts at 2. The registration fee is $8 per child, and $5 for any additional family members.

Chaney scores ace at Polish Pines KEYSER, W.Va. -- Les Chaney hit a hole-in-one, the 11th of his career, Monday at Polish Pines Golf Club, using a 7-iron on the 155-yard No. 8. Chaney was playing in a group with Jack Reynolds and Dave Daniels.

Stickley team wins Mill Creek scramble BURLINGTON, W.Va. -- Mike Stickley, Greg Pratt, Jeff Burgess and Alan Whetzel combined for a 57 to win the four-man scramble during the Men's Golf Association outing on Sunday at Mill Creek.

The second-place team, at 58, was Pot Coleman, Ian Coleman, F.J. Grady and J.J. Wilson. At 59 was the third-place team of Coby Faulk, Roger Fazebaker, Don Johnson and Dave Anderson. The par-3 winners were Grady (No. 3), Aaron Edwards (No. 4) and Faulk (No. 8).

The next outing will be April 15. The course will be closed on Thursday.

Good Timers golf league to begin play RAWLINGS -- The Good Timers Mixed League will begin play on Monday, April 13, at 5 p.m. at Fore Sisters Gold Club. All former members and anyone wishing to join is welcome.

YMCA offering youth soccer clinics CUMBERLAND -- Spring soccer skills clinics will be held at the YMCA on Wednesdays, beginning April 22.

An Under-6 class will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., Under-8 from 6 to 7 p.m., and Under 10/12 from 7 to 8 p.m.

The clinics run for seven Wednesdays. Fees are $35 for Y-members and $55 for the community. Call Laura McMahon for more information (301) 777-9622.

Jordan fares well in 31,000-runner venture CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Allegany County resident Jim Jordan placed in the top 1 percent of more than 31,400 participants on Saturday during the 32nd annual Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, S.C.

Jordan took covered the 6.2-mile distance in a chip time of 39 minutes and 40 seconds, good for eighth overall in the men's 50-54 age division.

Jordan and the others faced unseasonably cool temperatures on the point-to-point course, which began in Mt. Pleasant and finished in downtown Charleston. A key feature of the run is crossing the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, but published reports of a slight headwind prevented Jordan and others from running even faster along the thoroughfare.

The event is likely Jordan's last competitive effort as he begins tapering in preparation for the Boston Marathon later this month.

Allegany Softball LL clinics Saturday CRESAPTOWN -- The Allegany County Softball Little League for girls will hold a pitching, hitting and fielding clinic Saturday at Carl Belt Field in Cresaptown. The clinic, for 6-to-8 year-olds, will be from 10 a.m. to noon, while the 9-15 year-old clinic will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

All girls registered in the Allegany County Little League are encouraged to attend and will be instructed by the Allegany High School girls softball team. There is no charge to attend the clinic.
