Federal and Local Officials to Testify About Homeland Security Dangers in Gun Amendment and Other Risks to the National Capital Region Friday at Norton Hearing
Washington, DC - The Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, chaired by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), will hold a hearing to examine homeland security and public safety dangers posed by the proposed gun amendment to the D.C. House Voting Rights Act, and other issues to assure homeland security in the nation's capital. The hearing, entitled "Disaster Capacity in the National Capital Region: Experiences, Capabilities, and Weaknesses," will be held Friday, April 3, at 10 a.m., Rayburn House Office Building, room 2167. The hearing will feature testimony from D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier, and U.S. Capitol Police Chief Phillip D. Morse, who previously testified concerning a similar gun bill aimed at the District. Other witnesses scheduled to testify include Major General Errol R. Schwartz, commanding general, District of Columbia National Guard and Jonathon Sarubbi, administrator, Region III, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The names of other witnesses will be released tomorrow.
