NDS at CCBN 2009: Delivering the Best Security and Enabling New Entertainment Revenues for Chinese Pay-TV Operators

BEIJING --(Business Wire)-- NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced its line-up of solutions for CCBN 2009, March 21-23, Beijing. NDS will highlight solutions that enable operators and broadcasters to move to digital TV and deliver compelling new services that increase revenues.

At the heart of NDS' industry-leading solutions portfolio is NDS VideoGuard® conditional access (CA) and digital rights management (DRM). This content security technology currently protects over $40 billion in pay-TV service revenues in more than 99 million active devices worldwide.

"Chinese broadcasters and operators invested heavily in digital TV services in the lead up to the Olympics in 2008 and are now looking at ways to monetise their investment. Customers are particularly interested in areas such as EPGs, digital video recorder (DVR) services, interactive TV technologies and convergence," said Sue Taylor, Senior Vice President and General Manager of NDS Asia Pacific.

"We are continuing to invest in China. We are opening more offices to be close to our customers, supporting their businesses and showing operators how to move from a TV-as-utility marketplace into a higher ARPU market," continued Taylor.

Demonstrations on the NDS stand will include: DOXTV China solution: NDS VideoGuard and XTV™ technologies underpin DOXTV's VOD and DVR solution. This push VOD solution has been developed locally with DOXTV to meet it's specifications for high functionality and a user-friendly experience. This solution is unique in enabling operators to flag any content in the normal broadcast stream to be recorded to the hard disk.

Cable and Satellite Showcase: NDS will demonstrate how cable operators are pioneering new services for subscribers using NDS solutions. Get, a triple-play cable operator in Norway, is using an end-to-end suite of NDS technology including VideoGuard CA, MediaHighway® middleware, Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), XTV to power its DVR, VOD, and hybrid solutions. There will also be a demo from Hathway, the leading cable TV service provider in India, which has recently launched its ground-breaking Digital Box PLUS DVR, based on NDS XTV DVR solution. With NDS' XTV, subscribers can pause, record, play back, rewind and fast forward their recorded TV programmes, offering consumers increased freedom and flexibility. Dogan TV, the leading direct-to-home satellite broadcaster in Turkey, provides free-to-air and premium content using NDS VideoGuard, MediaHighway, and EPG end-to end solution.

MediaHighway Middleware: NDS will showcase some of the latest set-top box (STB) applications powered by MediaHighway middleware, now deployed in over 108 million devices worldwide. These include hybrid STBs and advanced DVR functions such as content recommendation, and IP applications such as push VOD.

Electronic Programme Guides: NDS will demonstrate the latest Flash™-based HD interfaces offering advanced animation and a consistent look-and-feel across devices. Show visitors will be able to test drive the NDS EPG Designer™ tool and discover how easy it is to create customised EPGs for a branded TV service.

NDS Dynamic™: this suite of TV advertising tools includes a sophisticated audience measurement system, a solution to enable targeted ad placements and an interactive advertising platform, all designed to help operators, broadcasters and advertisers to generate increased revenues. Using this new set of capabilities, pay-TV operators can offer advertisers and content providers measurable, targeted, and engaging TV advertising. The suite provides operators with comprehensive information about subscriber viewing habits, enabling them to create innovative campaigns to deliver advertising to appeal to specific audience groups.

NDS PC Show™: NDS PC solution provides the ideal platform for delivering Video and TV services to PCs over the open Internet, or leveraging an operator's existing broadcast system. Designed with VideoGuard PC™ for security, it allows subscribers to watch content via an operator branded web portal, or, by employing VideoGuard Key™ hardware plug-in, to deliver the same premium content operators have on their STBs to PCs equipped with any off-the-shelf tuner. PC Show allows subscribers to share content securely across devices (PC, STB, DVR). It integrates with existing operator back-office systems (billing, subscriber management, content systems) and is provided as an end-to-end solution with pre-integrated partner components The NDS Converged Home: NDS will demonstrate how pay-TV operators can generate more revenue from ‘four screens'. At its heart is NDS Unified Headend™, efficiently managing content delivery to multiple devices including TV, mobile phone, PC and other media. NDS Unified Headend enables operators to create new compelling applications and promotions with multiple cross-platform business models.
