'Regulator wants 1 auction for digital dividend and UMTS'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The German telecommunications regulator BNA wants to launch an auction for the largest frequency package in the history of Germany before the end of this year, according to German newspaper Die Welt citing BNA president Matthias Kurth. The auction will include the digital dividend frequencies as well as new UMTS frequencies including the two licences that were acquired in 2000 and have been given back. A so-called eckpunkte paper by BNA's advisory board shows that the licences will be nation-wide and not regional as they will have to be used for deploying mobile broadband in the whole of Germany and not only certain regions.
