Obama nominates friend, adviser to head FCC

(AP Online Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON_President Barack Obama has named Julius Genachowski as his nominee to chair the Federal Communications Commission.

The White House announced Genachowski's nomination on Tuesday. He was an adviser to Obama's campaign and worked at media executive Barry Diller's Internet conglomerate.

Genachowski previously worked at the FCC as chief counsel to the chairman and as special counsel. He clerked for Supreme Court Justices David Souter and William Brennan and worked in Congress.



Obama and Genachowski are friends from their time at Harvard Law School. He raised money for Obama's campaign.
