Saturn closing its dealership in Watertown, N.Y., this month(Watertown Daily Times (NY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mar. 3--Saturn of Watertown, 18675 Route 11, will close by the end of March as part of a consolidation of Saturn dealerships. Benjamin A. Cooper, vice president of Cooper Auto Group, said Monday morning that the Watertown dealership will be consolidated with its sister store, Saturn of Mohawk Valley, New York Mills. "We'll make it as easy and convenient for people as possible," he said. "We don't want anyone to feel inconvenienced or out of options." Warranty or recall issues will be handled by the Mohawk Valley dealership. He said customers could call the New York Mills dealership or him at 768-3821. A local manager had told the Times on Friday that the Watertown location would not be closing. General Motors ordered the consolidation as part of its restructuring. GM recently reported a loss of about $31 billion in 2008 and announced it would end, sell or spin off the Saab, Saturn and Hummer brands. A decision on Pontiac is expected by the end of the month. Saturn started in 1990 as a competitor to other small-car manufacturers. Saturn sells vehicles with only the ticket price -- there is no haggling over the cost. The brand sold 188,004 cars in 2008, down 21.7 percent from the previous year. There are eight employees at the Watertown dealership. Mr. Cooper said some may stay on at the New York Mills dealership and others will leave. The Watertown dealership opened in September 1994, according to Times archives.
