Actiontec Announces VDSL2 Field Trials With Major North American Carriers
(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUNNYVALE, CA, February 24 / MARKET WIRE/ --
Actiontec
Electronics today announced that several leading North American
carriers are set to field test its new line of triple play VDSL2/ADSL2+
Universal DSL Wireless Gateways. Scheduled for the end of February, the
field trials will run for a couple of months and involve VDSL2
ultra-broadband delivery to several hundred homes.
First unveiled in Q4 2008, Actiontec's Universal DSL Gateway combines VDSL2
and ADSL2+ ultra-broadband technology, high end processing power, and rich
home networking
connectivity options to fuel next-generation high-speed data, HDTV, and
Voice over IP services. The gateway offers throughput speeds up to 100 Mbps
upstream and downstream -- enabling carriers to deploy ultra-broadband
service via any access protocol (ATM or PTM) and any access architecture
including CO-based DSLAM, remote DSLAM, and FTTx.
"During recent months, we completed successful lab trials with major North
American carriers and we are confident the Universal DSL Gateway will
continue to perform beyond expectations as we move into field deployments,"
said Brian Henrichs, Actiontec Vice President of Business Development. "Our
goal is to stay on the leading edge of the home broadband gateway market
and empower our carrier customers to roll out faster speeds, a new
generation of enhanced applications, and a higher quality digital
experience."
The Universal DSL modem
router integrates a high performance ADSL2+, VDSL, and VDSL2 modem, 4
port Ethernet switch, 802.11n wireless router, and firewall into a sleek
and easy-to-use device. Advanced processing power ensures the device can
simultaneously support a wide range of demanding multimedia applications,
including HDTV, standard TV, Voice over WiFi, media sharing, and online
gaming. In addition to standard Ethernet and WiFi connectivity, the Universal Gateway provides enhanced
networking options for distributing premium content throughout the digital
home with support for MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) and HPNA3
(HomePNA).
In addition, the new modem router leverages technology that offers a
ten-fold improvement in impulse noise resilience and up to a 15 percent
service reach improvement. As a result, carriers can significantly improve
their IPTV and high speed data services, extend their network service area,
and deliver triple play services to more subscribers.
With support for standards-based remote management, the Universal DSL
Gateway effectively reduces the operational costs associated with deploying
and managing CPE devices in the home through remote provisioning, firmware
upgrades, monitoring and diagnostics. Carriers are able to remotely help
customers diagnose and resolve problems in the home network and configure
new services to give consumers an enhanced, trouble-free experience as they
migrate to media-rich, triple play services.
