Scheduled for the end of February, the field trials will run for a couple of months and involve VDSL2 ultra-broadband delivery to several hundred homes. First unveiled in Q4 2008, Actiontec's Universal DSL Gateway combines VDSL2 and ADSL2+ ultra-broadband technology, high end processing power, and rich home networking connectivity options to fuel next-generation high-speed data, HDTV, and Voice over IP services. The gateway offers throughput speeds up to 100 Mbps upstream and downstream -- enabling carriers to deploy ultra-broadband service via any access protocol (ATM or PTM) and any access architecture including CO-based DSLAM, remote DSLAM, and FTTx.
