eWeek Magazine Names SpringSource dm Server as One of Top Application Development Products of 2008

Jan 31, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
SpringSource, a provider of infrastructure software and the company behind Spring, a platform to build, run and manage enterprise Java applications, has been recognized as providing one of the top application development products of 2008 by eWeek Magazine.

The SpringSource dm Server is a completely modular, OSGi-based Java application server designed to run enterprise Java applications and Spring-powered applications with a new degree of flexibility and reliability, the company noted.

Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource, was also named a leading open source business influencer in 2008 by eWeek. Johnson and SpringSource have been a driving force in making Java simpler and more productive and adaptable for today's application developers. This comes in the wake of Johnson's election to the Java Community Process (JCP) Executive Committee (EC), through which Johnson is now able to work on behalf of the entire Java community.

"SpringSource dm Server being named as one of the top application development products by eWeek is recognition of the technological innovation that SpringSource brings to the market," said Rod Johnson, CEO of SpringSource. "We are honored that eWeek has recognized the SpringSource dm Server as an immediate alternative to application servers from large vendors like Oracle and IBM. We look forward to continuing our momentum in the market with the introduction of additional products designed to further improve and simplify enterprise Java."

The SpringSource dm Server is based on the new SpringSource Dynamic Module Kernel (dm Kernel). The dm Kernel provides a module-based backbone for the server, which also harnesses the power of Spring, Apache Tomcat and OSGi-based technologies. SpringSource said that enterprises using dm Server benefit from more efficient resource utilization, simultaneous version control and the ability to install and update application modules without server restart.

"The rise of Spring, and with it, SpringSource, has been a great success story for enterprise open source," says Raven Zachary, contributing analyst, The 451 Group. "In the last few years, enterprise usage of lightweight development technologies such as Spring and Tomcat have outpaced enterprise Java."
