Camtel GM in Court

Jan 23, 2009 (The Post/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) --
The General Manager of the Cameroon Telecommunications CAMTEL, David Nkoto Emane, appears before the Mfoundi High Court in Yaounde Thursday, January 22, to answer charges of corruption, favouritism, denial of service and abuse of power.

An official in the Ministry of Urban Affairs in Yaounde, Christopher Neba Che, filed the suit recently.According to the facts of the case, after Neba Che divorced with his wife, Alice Mbondo Mbang, who works with CAMTEL, the court ordered her to be paying FCFA 60,000 to her husband for the upkeep of their three children.

When the woman refused to heed this decision, it was arranged that the money would be off-set from her salary at source on a monthly basis. In this respect, the CAMTEL boss took the commitment to be cutting the woman's salary to that effect.

He is said to have taken the pledge in a letter with reference No. 109-DG-IS-CAJ of October 17, 2006, sent to a Yaounde-based bailiff. But as time went on, Neba Che claims, the CAMTEL GM connived with his ex-wife not to pay the money.

Neba Che reportedly sustained a legal battle on the matter. The court finally ruled in his favour and CAMTEL paid over FCFA 2 million into his account. But Neba still dragged the CAMTEL GM to court for refusing to pay the money until the court ordered him to do so.

He interprets this refusal as an act of corruption, favouritism, denial of service and abuse of power.
