HealthWyse Provides Rapid Release of Billing Software to MA Home Care Customers to Comply with Emergency Budget Adoption


WILMINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

HealthWyse, a software and services company for the Home Care and Hospice market, released software to its MA customers on 1/7/09 so that they could invoice Mass Health in compliance with the new billing regulations (114.3 CMR 50.00) that were announced in early December with an effective date of 12/1/2009.

The Massachusetts Division of Health Care Finance & Policy (DHCFP) issued a set of emergency budget adoptions in early December 2008 that has a direct impact on the reimbursement of services to Home Health Agencies. Agencies are to receive a 20% reduction in reimbursement for Skilled Nursing Visits for those patients that have been on service for more than 60 days. "There were several nuances that needed to be understood in order for the software to be developed," according to Laurie-Jean Brown, Financial Product Manager for HealthWyse.

HealthWyse was able to incorporate the changes, and test the changes prior to release. With its hosted database model for its clients, HealthWyse was able to distribute the software so that customers could start billing Mass Health for services rendered in December within the normal monthly billing cycle.


"Even though customers will need to adjust to the reduction in reimbursement, at least they did not have their cash flow impacted for months because they were not in a position to invoice for services," said Bob Anders, Vice President of Software Engineering.
