Broadcom signs license agreement for Cryptography Research's CryptoFirewall

(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Cryptography Research Inc (CRI), a US security technology company,
announced on Friday (9 January) that Broadcom Corporation
(Nasdaq:BRCM), a provider of solutions for wired and wireless
communications, has signed a license agreement for its CryptoFirewall
security technology for future integration into its multimedia
system-on-a-chip (SoC) set-top box chips.

According to the company, the CryptoFirewall is a hardware security
core designed to protect cryptographic keys and computations in a chip
from attack even if surrounding components are compromised. When
inserted in the Broadcom STB SoCs, it is expected to enable conditional
access providers to directly build their solutions on Broadcom's
platform. As a result, Broadcom's CryptoFirewall integration can help

reduce costs for conditional access companies, satellite, cable and
IP-based television systems.

No financial details were disclosed.
