TU star recruit practices with teamDec 29, 2008 (Tulsa World - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Tulsa recruit Shavodrick Beaver practiced with the Golden Hurricane on Monday afternoon, essentially binding him to the football program for the upcoming year. Beaver, a much-heralded recruit from Wichita Falls, Texas, went through light workouts with the team as it prepared for the Jan. 6 GMAC Bowl game against Ball State. He won't be available to play in that game. "It feels good to be at Tulsa right now," Beaver said after the two-hour practice. "The first day of practice was cool. "I'm a part of this. This is my new family." Beaver has been accepted and enrolled at TU. His recruitment is similar to a transfer student; he won't sign a letter of intent, but rather a scholarship agreement that links him to Tulsa. He'll attend classes as an early enrollee (along with Lincoln Christian's Cody Wilson and Shawnee's Brett Davis) and be available for spring football drills. "At quarterback, you have to learn and be the smartest guy on the field," he said. "It's best that you come early and get to know the system." Beaver wasn't concerned with Sunday's news that co-offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn took a similar job at Auburn University. "It's the head coach, Coach (Todd) Graham," he said. "I have a relationship with him." Beaver de-committed from Michigan to attend Tulsa. He is a four-star recruit from Rivals.com, and is rated the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally. Beaver won't sign a letter of intent in February, but will sign a scholarship agreement that links him to Tulsa.
