Presidio Networked Solutions Bolsters Healthcare Portfolio(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Presidio Networked Solutions, a provider of professional and managed services for advanced IT lifecycle solutions, has announced the deployment of a new solution to bridge language gaps between caregivers and patients. According to the company, caregivers equipped with IP-based videophones can now offer patients easy video access to trained medical interpreters, ensuring that the patient and doctor can clearly communicate about any medical procedures or services the patient may require. A key component in Presidio's portfolio of IT healthcare lifecycle solutions, Presidio's Video Medical Interpreter (VMI) solution is just one of the ways Presidio is helping Care Provider Organizations (CPOs) offer dramatically improved patient care, increase their efficiency, and leverage communications management solutions, the company said. Traditionally, according to the company, interpreter services teams at healthcare facilities are provided to a doctor-patient meeting through a traditional phone line or through travel to the patient's location, which could be several buildings or miles away. Neither solution is optimal in terms of efficiency or effectiveness. Now, by combining Cisco Call Manager technology and specialized Cisco Video Phones, healthcare professionals and patients can speak with the interpreter over a secure connection that provides both audio and video communications capability. "The VMI experience promotes a new level of communication," said Tom Foley, divisional co-President of Presidio Networked Solutions. "Facial expressions and other non-verbal cues provided by the video connection promote a deeper understanding between patients and caregivers -- which is ultimately key to improved patient care and comfort in today's complex, evolving healthcare system." Built on mobile "crash carts," the system incorporates outstanding mobility features and can be moved from room to room for ultimate flexibility and collaboration. Presidio's VMI system also automates handling of calls during peak-time demand. If all the interpreters are busy, calls are placed in a queue and answered in the order received, or according to the requirements of the caller or the language of the interpreter whose skills are needed, the company said. "As solutions such as VMI are introduced, we continue to develop new ways to help CPOs use their communications networks to increase their responsiveness to patients while streamlining their own operations," said Joel Schleicher, Chairman and CEO of Presidio Networked Solutions. "We are committed to staying at the forefront of communications technology for CPOs, and VMI is a solution that helps us in that mission."
