(CUL) TURKISH FILMS FESTIVAL BEGINS IN BRITISH CAPITAL

A Turkish films festival began in the British capital of London on Friday.
The film festival was launched with a gala at the British Film Industry (BFI) on Friday night. "Gitmek" (My Marlon and Brando), a film by director Huseyin Karabey, was screened during the gala.

This is the 14th festival held so far. Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Pegasus Airlines, Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Organization, Balik Arts, Levenes Solicitors, Kavaklidere Wines and Beko are sponsoring the festival.

Twenty-one Turkish films will be screened during the festival to end on December 18.
Turkish films to be on the screen are "Ara" (The Space Between) "Sonbahar" (Autumn), "Mutluluk" (Bliss), "Mavi Gozlu Dev" (Blue Eyed Giant), "Kader" (Destiny), "Nokta" (Dot), "Hazan Mevsimi" (A Fairground Attraction), "Sis ve Gece" (Fog and The Night), "Iki Super Film Birden" (Gravity Zero), "Jan Jan", "Havar", "Made in Europe", "Takva" (A Man's Fear of God), "Pazar-Bir Ticaret Masali" (The Market: A Tale of Trade), "Munferit" (Murky Waters), "Gitmek" (My Marlon and Brando), "Multeci" (Refugee), "Tatil Kitabi" (Summer Book), "Uc Maymun" (Three Monkeys), "Bes Vakit" (Times and Winds) and "Iki Cizgi" (Two Lines).

The festival venues are BFI Southbank, Barbican, Odeon Covent Garden, Rio Cinema, Odeon Holloway Road, Odeon Lee Valley.


The London Turkish Film Festival was inaugurated in 1993, and since then it has been a vital event in the London cultural scene.

Over its lifespan, the festival has screened nearly 200 feature, and 300 short and documentary films. The festival has also invited nearly 100 guests, including directors, producers, actors, and short film-makers. Panels and discussions have also featured as another key activity of the festival, and have involved a wide range of participants from the international film industry.
