14 killed in Pak clashesIslamabad, Dec 06, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Thirteen militants and a soldier were killed and five others were injured in incidents of violence in the troubled Swat valley in northwestern Pakistan today. Gunship helicopters targeted militant hideouts in Matta sub-district, a stronghold of the local Taliban. Eleven militants were killed while one was injured in the operation, an official statement said. A huge cache of explosives stored in a home was destroyed in the attacks, it said. Two militants and a soldier were killed in a gun battle in Matta city. Four militants were injured in the fighting. Security forces have been conducting a campaign in Swat against Taliban fighters led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah since October last year.
