BT: New Adidas Sports 'Zones' To Get Free Wifi From BTNov 25, 2008 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- BT has teamed up with adidas to provide free wireless broadband at the sportswear giant's new adiZones - specialised outdoor sports centres built around the capital as part of adidas' GBP1m million sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympics. Sports fans using three of the adiZones, based in the London boroughs of Greenwich, Newham and Waltham Forest, can take a break to surf the net, play online games or make phone calls over the internet for free. BT has installed a BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspot at each of the three venues which will be used by local councils to offer free sports sessions as part of a drive to encourage sports participation in some of London's most deprived areas. The multi-sport floodlit areas feature basketball, football and tennis facilities with a climbing wall, outdoor gym and an open space area for dance, aerobics, gymnastics and martial arts. Chris Bruce, General Manager for BT Openzone, said: "This project marks the first of a series of collaborations between BT and adidas, and we're delighted to be providing London communities with free wireless broadband at the adiZones." Nick Craggs, Marketing Director, adidas Area North added: "adiZones are state-of-the-art multi-sport areas which underline the adidas commitment to providing free to use sporting facilities in the capital. BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots will be an important addition to making adiZones valued focal points for the local community." The availability of Wi-Fi enabled devices and popularity of high bandwidth applications such as iPlayer and YouTube has spurred consumer demand for quality Wi-Fi. Use is especially high in at leisure and hospitality sites as tech savvy kids get online. In addition to adiZones, BT customers can choose to get online at over 150,000 UK and Ireland locations, including those provided by the BT FON Wi-Fi community, BT Openzone and its roaming partners, plus BT Openzone at BT Business Total Broadband hotspots. These include airports, railway stations, hotel chains, motorway service stations, coffee shops, marinas, residential areas and extensive coverage across 12 major city centres. Openzone hotspots are also cover a number of major sports venues such as the Millennium Stadium, Twickenham, Murrayfield, Hampden Park, Chelsea FC, Headingly and Durham cricket grounds and Manchester Velodrome.
