TSA and American Airlines introduce electronic boarding passes at LAXNov 21, 2008 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and American Airlines (NYSE:AMR) have announced the launch of a Paperless Boarding Pass pilot programme at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The programme will enable passengers to receive their boarding passes electronically, through mobile phones or PDAs, which can then be scanned by TSA security officers at checkpoints, eliminating the need for paper boarding passes. Paperless boarding passes will consist of a two-dimensional barcode with passenger and flight information to identify the customer. The barcodes will be scanned using mobile scanners to authenticate the pass. Customers can choose to receive electronic boarding passes when e-mail with an Internet link to their boarding pass. Passengers who wish to check-in bags will be able to scan the boarding pass on their mobile phone or PDA screen at American Airlines self-service machines, ticket counters or curbside check-in facilities. American Airlines has also introduced mobile boarding passes at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and John Wayne Orange County Airport. Comments on this story may be sent to [email protected] |
