Tajikistan launches its first 24-hour news TV channel

DUSHANBE, Nov 14, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) --
?- Tajikistan's first news television channel named Jahonnamo (The world around us) began broadcasting on November 5.

The new television channel will broadcast both terrestrial and satellite (via the Yamal satellite) TV 24 hours a day.

Broadcasting will be in Tajik, but some news programs will also be released in Russian and Uzbek, the head of the country's Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee Asadullo Rakhmonov said earlier.

The last couple of years witnessed the launch of two new state television channels - the entertainment channel Safina and the children's educational channel Bakhoriston. Private television channels are not broadcast in Dushanbe but have a regional coverage.

The first Farsi-language channel is due to be launched next year, which will employ journalists from Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan, while the broadcasting area will cover all three countries.
