Media Advisory - VIA Employees, Your Local Media Contact In "Operation Stormwatch"MONTREAL, Nov. 13, 2008 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- (Private notice to media - not for release to the public) Winter brings snow and inclement weather, which often shuts down our highways and airports. Trains tend to be the last mode of transport affected by bad weather and VIA Rail Canada faces increased demand whenever a storm hits. In an effort to keep you informed and up-to-date regarding VIA services in your area, specifically during a major storm, VIA created Operation Stormwatch. An agent from the VIA station in your community will be your newsroom's direct contact whenever a storm hits your area and will make every effort to advise you about our operations and space availability. Your local VIA station supervisor will be contacting you by phone very shortly to provide you with an unlisted phone number which you may use to get any special concern or question answered in the event of a storm. Please note that this number is for your news-gathering use only and is not for broadcast. Should you want to advise your listeners to call VIA, we suggest you give them our toll-free number, 1-888-VIA-RAIL (842-7245). In the event of a storm, listeners can also be directed to VIA's website at www.viarail.ca to access all travel advisories associated with inclement weather. Should you have any questions regarding this procedure, or in the event your local station is unable to help you, feel free to call either of the undersigned at the numbers listed below.
