Turin Networks Welcomes Founding Members of New Technology Alliance Program

PETALUMA, CA, Nov 11, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Turin Networks, Inc. today announced the first partners
participating in the company's new Technology Alliance Program. This
select list of initial partners includes the industry's leading
providers of Ethernet over copper, or EoPDH (Ethernet over
Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) access products. Participation in
Turin's Technology Alliance Program means that partners have
demonstrated interoperability with Turin products in either live or
simulated carrier network environments. This results in the
simplified deployment of new Ethernet services.
As part of the company's newly formed Technology Alliance Program,
interoperability testing was performed between Turin's EoPDH solution
and best-in-class providers of EoPDH access devices. These include:
ADVA Optical Networking (FSP 150CC), ANDA Networks (EtherReach 2108
and 2200), RAD Data Communications (RICi-16), and Telco Systems
(EdgeLink Mini-Mux 2000).
Announced in June of this year, Turin Networks' EoPDH solution
consists of an interface module for the company's Traverse(R)
Multiservice Transport Switch that provides high-density aggregation
and termination of EoPDH DS1, DS3, E1 and E3 circuits. The Traverse
EoPDH solution enables connections to thousands of business customer
locations or cell site base stations from a single, compact chassis.
The EoPDH module integrates fully featured Ethernet switching
capabilities with the ability to granularly manage traffic in 1Mbps
increments. Used in combination with an EoPDH access solution from
any of Turin's Technology Alliance Partners, network operators are
able to reach more customers with new IP and Ethernet services more
quickly, while providing significant CAPEX and OPEX savings compared
to alternative approaches for deploying Ethernet over copper.
"Turin creates real value for its Traverse customers by enabling a
broad range of fully tested, interoperable service delivery options
for EoPDH," said John Doyle, vice president of Global Marketing at
Turin Networks. "We look forward to working closely with these market
leaders as EoPDH continues its rapid growth."
According to the Vertical Systems Group, less than 16 percent of
commercial buildings in the U.S. had access to fiber in 2007. The
delivery of Ethernet over existing copper PDH facilities (T1, T3, E1
and E3) enables service providers to offer new "mid-band" Ethernet
services to customers lacking fiber connectivity. By bonding together
multiple PDH circuits (based on the existing ITU-T G.8040 EoPDH
standard) service providers can closely align their Ethernet service
offerings with standard Ethernet bandwidth rates from 1Mbps to
100Mbps, and easily increase bandwidth as end-customers' capacity
needs grow.
