Bangladesh will suspend mobile
communication network on the day of the country's parliamentary
election, scheduled on Dec. 18, aiming to make the polls free and
fair.
After a meeting with senior government officials here Friday,
election commissioner M Sakhawat Hossain told reporters that
mobile phone network will remain suspended from morning to evening
of the voting day to bar anyone with wrong intentions.

He said they will direct the Bangladesh Telecommunication
Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take necessary steps so that the
country's cell phone operators act accordingly.
At present there are six mobile operators in Bangladesh. The
market leader is Grameenphone, followed by Banglalink, AKTel,
Warid, Citycell and state-run Teletalk.
According to latest official statistics of the BTRC, the
country 's total number of mobile users stood at 45.09 million in
September.
