Verizon settles patent suit with Klausner

Oct 28, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
US wireless service provider Verizon has settled a visual voicemail patent infringement suit with Klausner Technologies. Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed but Verizon has now signed a licensing agreement with Klausner so it can use Klausner's visual voicemail technology in its Verizon Wireless Visual Voicemail service.

Klausner filed the patent suit in August in the US District Court of Texas against Verizon, LG, Citrix Systems, Comverse Technology, Embarq, (Google-owned) Grand Central Communications, Cox Communications, PhoneFusion, and RingCentral.

Judah Klausner, chief executive at Klausner Technologies, said: "We are pleased to announce Verizon as our 15th Visual Voicemail licensee. Our patented technology enables consumers to view, prioritize, and select voice messages from their mobile phones."

Verizon is the fifteenth company to license the Klausner visual voicemail patents. Klausner has agreed to similar settlements with AT&T, Sprint, Vonage, eBay, Apple, Comcast and Cablevision, while the suits against Comverse, Embarq, LG, Google, PhoneFusion, Citrix, RingCentral and Cox are still pending.
