Movial Launches Internet-Only PC-to-Mobile Voice Using the MMtel Standard

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Movial, a provider of Internet experiences, announced that it is paving
the way for operators to launch and monetize all-IP communications
across PCs and Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), free of interoperability
issues, using the Multimedia Telephony standard, MMtel.

As a provider of IP communications and creator of IMS-based
communications software and applications, Movial noted, it now enables
operators to provide converged, fixed and mobile real-time multimedia
services to its subscribers, immediately increasing stickiness and
adoption of new applications. This means, for the first time, users who
belong to different operators can communicate with each other across
PCs and mobile devices using all available multimedia services,
according to the company.

The next-generation Multimedia Telephony Service (MMTel) is a standard
based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), offering converged, fixed
and mobile real-time multimedia communication using media capabilities
such as voice, real-time video, text, file transfer and sharing of
pictures, audio and video clips, the company said.

With Movial's MMTel-enabled Communicator solution, operators can
immediately generate new revenue streams across fixed and high
bandwidth mobile networks like High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and Long
Term Evolution (LTE), by adding new multimedia to their offering based
on user demand. Subscribers using a Movial-powered service can now
enjoy natural, real-time communications with friends, family and
colleagues by making and receiving calls on any device with the same

phone number. Whether using a headset with a PC or using a mobile
device, users can start with chat, add voice, add another caller, add
video, share media and transfer files, and drop any of these without
losing or having to end the session, according to the company.

"By leveraging the capabilities and promise of MMTel, Movial continues
to add value to operators, enabling them to aggressively enter new
markets, like broadband PC-based communications, while increasing
revenue opportunities and stickiness of multimedia applications for
subscribers," said Jari Ala-Ruona, CEO of Movial. "Movial
Communicator's rich communications seamlessly bring together MMTel
voice and video calling with multimedia content sharing with enhanced
presence and messaging capabilities."
