REDWOOD CITY, Calif. & PARIS --(Business Wire)-- Ingres Corporation, a leading provider of open source database management software and support services, announced today that it is joining the OW2 Consortium. Founded in January 2007, OW2 is an independent industry community dedicated to developing open source code middleware and to fostering a vibrant community and business ecosystem.

"Joining OW2 is a great opportunity for Ingres to continue sharing development and innovation with the open source community," said Roger Burkhardt, president and CEO of Ingres. "OW2 hosts some one hundred technology projects, including our partner, SpagoBI. We are pleased to be a Corporate Member of this dynamic open source organization."

"Ingres represents a new opportunity for OW2 and specifically for SpagoBI users who want to evaluate and adopt a strong open source database," said Gabriele Ruffatti, architectures and consulting director at Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, and lead of the OW2 BI Initiative.

Earlier this year Ingres and Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, Italy's leading IT services company, announced the completion of a technological partnership by which SpagoBI and Ingres have certified each other's products in order to strengthen their open source business intelligence (BI) solutions at the enterprise level.

"Ingres open source technology offers new perspectives to the OW2 BI Initiative and to all our members," said Cedric Thomas, CEO of OW2 "We are extremely proud to welcome Ingres as a new Corporate Member."

"By joining the OW2 Consortium Ingres commits to collaborate with the OW2 open source community to further the innovations being made in distributed middleware," said Emma McGrattan, senior vice president of engineering for Ingres, who will address the Technology Council at the OW2 quarterly meeting on September 24.
