DigiMeld Launches New Grid Streaming Solutions(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DigiMeld, a provider of software solutions for streaming and live Internet broadcasting, announced that it will deliver a new service that will enable content providers to create unlimited video channels and more efficiently stream video, including HD video, over the Internet while conserving bandwidth and minimizing costs. According to the company, DigiMeld's intelligent grid-streaming solution has been successfully tested with NASA Television in a range of live Internet broadcast trials, including a simultaneous broadcast of a shuttle launch, with no down time and more than 100,000 live, high-quality concurrent video streams. DigiMeld also announced that it has completed a $2 million Series A round of financing from angel investors that include industry veterans. Developed by noted technology entrepreneur Alex Mashinsky, a founder of Arbinet-thexchange, DigiMeld leverages a patent-pending software architecture that enables intelligent distribution of content among a network of Internet video viewers. DigiMeld will market the solution to network providers, content delivery network (CDN) firms, and a wide range of video content-holders, including broadcasters, user-generated content (UGC) sites, and business enterprise customers, the company said. "We are providing tools that will enable anyone to launch their own video channel and ensure that the web video revolution continues to expand. Our previous work at Arbinet, which created the industry's largest exchange, has enabled us to see the problems inherent in video delivery over the public Internet, and we are responding with a grid streaming solution that delivers video using available bandwidth from ISPs, efficiently and cost-effectively," said Mashinsky. "With our intelligent grid streaming solution, we can provide greater cost efficiencies, a superior user experience which is not available to the what traditional CDNs currently offer." Through the use of the OptimizedIP services of Arbinet, an electronic marketplace for communications trading with more than 1,100 connected carriers, DigiMeld sends its traffic via the best performing major Tier 1 ISP at any given time to further enhance viewer experience. Unlike traditional CDNs such as Aramaic and Limelight, DigiMeld's platform dynamically and periodically selects the optimal network to deliver the traffic, the company said. "The CDN industry is based on an architecture that is inflexible and does not optimize the bandwidth constraints of any IP network. DigiMeld is designed for today's Internet video bottleneck," said Mark Kirstein, president of Multimedia Intelligence. "The value of using a cost-effective solution for video is of great urgency to the industry overall, as new channels are added everyday and major content-holders seek to push more of their content downstream to web users."
