American Airlines launches in-flight broadband access service

(Airline Industry Information Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
American Airlines, a subsidiary of the AMR Corporation (NYSE: AMR),
announced on 20 August that it has launched an in-flight broadband
access service called GoGo.

The service, available on American's Boeing 767-200 non-stop flights
between New York and San Francisco, Los Angeles or Miami, will be
available to passengers as a fee based service. It will provide
passengers who have their own Wi-Fi enabled devices with access to an
air-to-ground (ATG) broadband system, provided by Aircell, once the
aircraft has climbed to an altitude of more than 10,000ft.

The GoGo service will cost USD12.95 on flights of more than three
hours. Each session allows full Internet access but mobile phone and
VoIP services are not available.
