Essen -- At the beginning of July IMC-Montan Consulting GmbH, a
subsidiary of the DMT technical services group located in Essen, signed
a contract for the preparation of a feasibility study. The principal
here is the Shougang Hierro Peru S.A.A, a subsidiary of the China
Shougang Group, China's fourth largest steel producer. For some ten
years the group has owned the Peruvian iron mining and dressing
company, Hierro Peru S.A.A, which is now to be expanded.

Working in concert with other companies in NRW, IMC-Montan Consulting
is the lead firm in the determination of how production capacities
might be expanded. The study deals essentially with planning for two
new open-cast mines with the corresponding operating resources, an
estimate of available ore reserves, the geotechnical evaluation of the
deposits, and pre-engineering planning for two new crude ore crushing
and screening units, a new conveyor belt system about 20 km long, and a
new dressing facility to produce iron ore concentrates.

Other important elements in the commission are a seawater desalination
plant and a study on energy supply to the project. The objective is to
establish a global state of the art mining complex with the
characterized by energy saving, environment friendliness and high
efficiency. The project is scheduled to be completed within 2-3 years.
Overall contract volume runs to seven digits.

Peruvian iron ore for world market The Hierro Peru mine, located along
the coast south of Lima, specialises in mining and processing iron ore.
About eight million tons of iron ore concentrate are produced in the
mines each year. As the owner of that company, the Shougang Group now
intends to expand production phase by phase, with the production
capacity of 10 million tons for the first phase. The iron ore is
destined for the world market, especially the Chinese market.

Structural change has been accomplished "Our competence in mining, in
developing new natural resource deposits, and in optimizing existing
operations is in strong demand, particularly in China. This project
shows once again that large concerns operating at a global scale are
banking on the decades of mining experience and expertise found in
NRW," explains Heinz-Gerd Krner, Chairman of the DMT Executive Board.

IMC-Montan Consulting GmbH is a subsidiary of DMT GmbH & Co. KG, both
located in Essen. IMC-Montan supports mining companies around the world
throughout the life cycle of a mining project - from exploration
consulting to managing redundancies and recultivation following
closure. This international mining consultant currently employs a staff
of 25 at its offices in Essen, Nottingham and Moscow.

As an independent engineering and consulting firm, DMT GmbH & Co. KG
