Detroit's Drivers Welcome Free Mobile Traffic Service

DETROIT, July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- 3rd Dimension, Inc. today launched Mobileyes, a free mobile traffic camera service available in Detroit.

The application for mobile devices is advertising-supported and gives drivers access to more than 600 traffic cameras operated by the Michigan Department of Transportation. The service will assist the millions of Detroit-area drivers in planning their commutes and travels, to and from their homes, offices or schools. In partnership with a top Detroit television station, 3rd Dimension is offering the service to commuters looking to ease road travel in and around the "Motor City."

"In Michigan, we're committed to providing our customers every opportunity to spend more time with their families and less time in their daily commute," said Greg Krueger, ITS Program Manager for the Michigan Department of Transportation. "As gas prices hover at $4.00 per gallon, we're committed to providing our customers access to the information they need to find the safest, quickest and subsequently the most cost-effective routes to and from their destination. This partnership with private industry will provide Michigan residents and visitors access to live and still images of area roadways to help them plan ahead."

Eric Joseph, president, 3rd Dimension said, "The Mobileyes application has been a success in many major metropolitan areas with traffic issues. The software increases the value of the already indispensable mobile phone by putting a simple to use, on-demand traffic advisory service in the palm of your hand."

In addition to Detroit, the 3rd Dimension real-time mobile phone traffic service is already available in Hartford, Conn.; New York; Los Angeles; Kansas City; Houston; Knoxville; Indianapolis; and Washington, D.C. It is compatible with data enabled phones on the Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile networks; users can access the service from anywhere on popular smart phones such as the BlackBerry, Palm Treo and the Motorola Q.

"Forbes just called Detroit one of the 10 worst congested cities in the country -- traffic is epic, especially at rush hour," Mr. Joseph added.

To download the video application, commuters can go to http://www.freetrafficcams.com/ and request the service by entering their mobile phone number.

Once the application is downloaded, drivers can choose to view near real-time traffic images from any of the cameras along their route and can even program keys on their phone to quickly access their favorites.
