AT&T plans USD400m investment in Alabama

AT&T Inc (NYSE:T), a US telecomms operator, has announced plans to
invest approximately USD400m in its infrastructure and services in the
US State of Alabama over the next several years.

The investment is as a result of decisions made or in the process of
being considered my a number of local authorities in the state to allow
AT&T to install its direct-to-the-home fibre optic cables to provide
residents with access to AT&T's U-verse services. The U-verse services
include IP-based TV, telephony and broadband internet access.

Around 34 communities in the state including Birmingham City Council

have approved he agreement already and AT&T is expecting to conclude
similar agreements with other cities and councils in the state. The
company said that the agreements are critical to its plans to complete
the investment programme.
