[July 04, 2008] Delta and ExpressJet to terminate flying agreement Tweet (Airline Industry Information Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) and ExpressJet have announced that all ExpressJet Delta Connection operations will be ceased from 1 September 2008. Currently, ExpressJet operates 23 ERJ-145 aircraft for Delta Connection. These flights primarily run from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Delta intends for some of these flights, including all of those from operated from ExpressJet's Salt Lake City hub, to be awarded to another Delta Connection carrier. Don Bornhorst, senior vice president of Delta Connection, described the termination as "a mutual agreement" that should cause minimal impact to passengers. Jim Ream, ExpressJet president and chief executive officer, stated that the cessation of the ExpressJet Delta Connection operations is in the best interest of ExpressJet, because of "the losses we were experiencing from our Delta pro-rate flying combined with our ability to return aircraft to the lessor". Customers with flights affected by the termination will be contacted by Delta and offered alternative flights or refunds.
