Medical information company DocuSys to move headquarters to Atlanta

(Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jun. 19--Medical information management company DocuSys Inc. is moving its headquarters from Mobile to Midtown Atlanta, a move expected to create an estimated 300 jobs over the next three years.

Company officials said the Atlanta area's large and growing pool of health care workers made the region attractive.

"Atlanta offers a developing health care technology company like DocuSys a sizable pool for finding talented and experienced applicants with the necessary skills we need for each specific position," DocuSys CEO Robert E. Watson said in a statement.

In Atlanta, the company expects to hire software engineers as well as product management and sales personnel. The company's human resources manager in Mobile, Sue Bonds, said in a telephone interview that an expansion from the company's current work force of about 55 people to a level near 300 was "certainly doable."

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue announced the move Thursday at the annual BIO International biotech industry conference here, calling it yet another sign that Georgia's biotech and health care technology industry is on the move.

A day earlier, Perdue announced that Atlanta beat Washington, D.C., and other cities to land a $250 million, first-of-its-kind National Health Museum. Next year, Atlanta is holding the annual BIO International conference, which attracts more than 20,000 biotech executives from around the globe.

In a short speech to biotech executives Thursday that was designed as a sales pitch for Georgia, Perdue made a point to emphasize the state's growing biotech and health industry work force, fueled by graduates from the region's universities.

"We've got plenty of talent to go around," Perdue said.

DocuSys provides information management systems for anesthesiologists and hospitals. The company was started after one of its principals experienced a medication error, according to company information.

Dr. Robert Evans -- now the company's chief medical officer -- went on to develop a system that could warn anesthesia providers in advance about potential problems such as conflicts with allergies or medical conditions.

The company now provides systems and devices that let medical personnel monitor and control anesthesia and any adverse reactions before, during and after a patient's surgery.

It plans to maintain a presence in Alabama as well.
