[May 09, 2008] Motorola trials TETRA communications network in Polish war game simulation Tweet (Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A trial of a TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) communications network has been announced in communications solutions provider Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT) in Poland within the chambers of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, 130 metres underground. Motorola said the critical communications network has been used via a war game simulation as part of the Freedom and Security conference in Poland, with the system providing a secure radio network on the surface and underground. The company confirmed conference attendees were involved in a crisis management war game scenario and tested how the private radio network could be used during an crisis or emergency situation. It claimed the demonstration enables users to experience its Dimetra IP Compact solution, testing communication networks under simulated crisis pressures. According to Motorola, the Dimetra IP Compact solution allows users to choose a structured deployment where customers can begin with a basic voice system, adding features and capacity as requirements grow. In addition, the solution offers other key functions such as data transfer and rapid deployment in emergency and mission critical scenarios and is available in various frequency bands to suit existing and emerging markets. The war game simulation reportedly included the deployment of Dimetra IP Compact switch, two MTS-2 base stations and MTP850 handheld radios for voice communication.
