(Salt Lake Tribune, The (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Apr. 18--EXECUTIVES TO LOBBY UTAH OFFICIALS TO SUPPORT MERGER: Two Delta Air Lines senior executives will be in Salt Lake City today to press their case that merging with Northwest Airlines to create the world's biggest carrier is a good idea for Utah.
Delta CEO Richard Anderson and Ed Bastian, president of the Atlanta-based airline, will seek support from Delta employees, Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and Salt Lake Chamber CEO Lane Beattie.
Officials with both airlines have been traveling since the proposed merger was announced Monday, meeting with employees, politicians and reporters.
While support for a combination seems widespread in Salt Lake, where Delta operates an airport hub and employs 3,500 people, pockets of resistance have appeared.
Two Northwest unions are opposed to a tie-up and Wall Street has reacted negatively. On Thursday, Delta closed at $8.55, down 7 cents. Northwest fell 6 cents to $9.49.
