Tatara Systems Unveils Convergence Server
(Wireless News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)
Tatara Systems, a provider of SIP-based femtocell convergence,
announced the availability of the Tatara CDMA 1xRTT Convergence Server
(TCS/CDMA-1xRTT), a standards-based SIP/IMS service interworking
application server for the delivery of CDMA 1xRTT services to SIP-based
end points over a VoIP or IMS infrastructure.
Tatara noted that operators are seeking cost effective ways to
transition their circuit-based mobile core to a next generation IP
packet-based core, and the TCS/CDMA-1xRTT enables CDMA operators to
preserve the significant investment in their existing mobile core,
while selectively deploying new devices and services, such as
femtocells, over this new packet core.
The company said the TCS/CDMA-1xRTT supports all critical requirements
for integrating femtocells into an operator s mobile core, including
authentication, voice calls, messaging, supplementary services,
emergency services, and femto-macro handoff. It converges femtocells
onto the mobile core via an IOS-SIP software adapter in the femtocell,
and handles the service interworking and call state processing for
controlling the flow of voice and messaging traffic over the IP packet
core. The key benefit is a low cost convergence solution that exploits
commodity IP infrastructure for transport and control, delivers service
parity with the macro network, and enables operators to leverage their
current mobile core assets. The TCS/CDM-1xRTT can be deployed in a VoIP
or IMS environment, and supports standard IETF SIP or IMS-based ISC
interfaces into the packet core, as well as an ANSI-41 interface into
the CDMA 1xRTT core.
The initial driver for Tatara s convergence server initiative was
SIP-based femtocell network integration, but our engagements with CDMA
operators and femtocell ecosystem partners have confirmed there are
compelling applications beyond femtocell convergence, including
SIP-based IP-RAN macro network solutions, said E.Y. Snowden, President
and CEO of Tatara Systems. The Tatara CDMA 1xRTT Convergence Server
offers operators a single, scalable platform that can be extended to
support a broad range of mobile convergence applications, enabling CDMA
1xRTT services to be delivered to a variety of SIP-based end points.
"A SIP-based approach offers mobile operators a more flexible, scalable
way to integrate femtocells into their core network, especially those
with fixed-line assets, or relationships with broadband service
providers," said Roberta Wiggins, Research Fellow with The Yankee
Group. "Tatara's CDMA 1xRTT Convergence Server can assist CDMA
operators in delivering new mobile converged services, while leveraging
their investment in a next generation VoIP or IMS packet core."
