Aastra Telecom, a provider of traditional and VoIP communication
products and systems, announced on Thursday (27 March) that it has
launched the Aastra 5000, an IP telephony software targetting large
enterprises with multi-site networks.

According to the company, Aastra 5000 software is open-standards-based
and can scale from 500 to 150,000 users (15,000 per server) and cover
2,000 sites. The solution features: a SIP protocol ensuring it is
compatible with all types of terminals, including IP Aastra, SIP, SIP
Video, H323, DECT over IP, SIP Wi-Fi or GSM/Wi-Fi, SIP or Aastra
Softphones; a SIP Trunk interface for enterprises that can connect to
Voice over IP operators; an architecture based on Linux.

The solution offers an anti-virus capability and is compatible with a
range of firewalls available on the market. In addition, the server can
be protected via spatial duplication (on a second local or remote
server), with automatic switchover in case of problems.

Administration of the system can reportedly be accessed via a web
browser, enabling an administrator to manage the network remotely from
any PC. System data is stored in a central database that facilitates
installation, configuration, operation and supervision of the network.
In addition, the company offers the Aastra Management 7450, an
administration software dedicated to managing very large systems,
alongside the Aastra 5000.

No pricing details were disclosed.
